Osaka weather is largely temperate with four easily recognisable seasons as each is distinguished by its own variations in both temperature and precipitation patterns. As general rule though, Osaka weather is considered to be either warn or hot for much of the year.
Springtime is by far the most pleasant season in Osaka, thus the best time to plan a visit. The rain is little, the weather is pleasant and temperatures are mild, hovering around the 18 °C mark. As cherry blossoms burst into bloom, the arrival of spring is heralded and it’s not uncommon to see endless crowds joyfully taking strolls amongst the blossomed trees joining forces in this celebration of colour and life.
But as slowly spring makes way for summer, Osaka weather takes a turn for the worst. Mid-May marks the beginning of the rainy season – locally known as “tsuyu” - which can last between six weeks and two months. Temperatures become almost unbearable reaching highs in mid 30sC, the heat is stifling and humidity levels are anywhere between 70% and 90%. To make matters even worst, typhoons begin to make their appearances in July, their presence felt until October. Thankfully, despite the ferocity and longevity of the typhoon season Osaka rarely gets hit with more than two major typhoons in a year.
Osaka weather during the autumn spring – or to be more precise, from mid-October to mid-December – is characterised by its unpredictability and the fluctuation between temperatures. Even during November, daytime temperatures can reach highs of 25C by night time they can plunge to a much colder 6C. Understandably autumns in Osaka are humid with the other blessed with clear skies until the end of November.
Running between mid-December to mid-February, winter weather in Osaka is fiercely cold, with brisk winds and temperatures plunging bellow zero. Yet even the coldest run can be intercepted by finer, more humid weather with temperatures ranging between 5C and 15C.
